The Premier League have explained why Fulham's goal against Chelsea was chalked off following a VAR review.

Joshua King looked to have given Fulham a 21st-minute lead at Stamford Bridge, only for the goal to be overturned by referee Robert Jones. To make matters worse, Chelsea, who were second-best in the first half, took the lead in stoppage time through Joao Pedro's header. So, here's why the Cottagers' opener was ruled out.

Following a VAR review, along with Jones going to the pitchside monitor, it was deemed that Rodrigo Muniz fouled Trevoh Chalobah in the build-up to King's goal. The official deemed that the striker committed a "careless" challenge, and the goal was ruled out.
WHAT THE PREMIER LEAGUE SAID
The Premier League Match Centre tweeted: "After VAR review, the referee overturned the original decision of goal to Fulham. Referee announcement: “After review, Fulham number nine commits a careless challenge, stands on the foot of the Chelsea defender, therefore we disallow the goal and we restart with a Chelsea free kick. There would be no further action.”

To rub more salt into Fulham's wounds, Chelsea won and then scored a contentious spot-kick to make it 2-0 as Enzo Fernandez converted from the spot. That was also controversial as although Ryan Sessegnon handled, the ball looked to have struck Joao Pedro's hand in the lead-up. Fulham boss Marco Silva's post-match press conference is likely to be interesting.
