Tottenham fans react as Jan Vertonghen to Ajax gathers pace

Ajax manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed to TV channel Ziggo, via Sports Witness, that his club are interested in signing Jan Vertonghen on a free transfer at the end of the 2019/20 season. The 118-time Belgium international will see his current deal at Tottenham Hotspur expire at the end of June. The 32-year-old has not always been first choice for Spurs this term but has still made 22 appearances in all competitions.

As it stands, though, the experienced defender will be leaving on a free transfer, and Ten Hag has revealed that Ajax are interested in re-signing him.

As expected, a number of Spurs fans have been on social media offering their views on the situation and some want Vertonghen to return to the Dutch champions.

Others, though, have taken a less romantic view on the situation and would want Ajax to potentially give Spurs an option to sign one or two of their players.

There will, of course, not be any swaps taking place unless the 6ft 2 star signs a new contract before being sold this summer, although Ajax, as mentioned, could hand Mourinho’s team first option on the likes of Hakim Ziyech.

One Spurs supporter has also taken the chance to have a pop at another of the club’s defenders, Davinson Sanchez, asking whether the Dutch side would also consider taking the Colombia international back to the club.

Meanwhile, a number of the club’s fans have been reacting to a transfer report surrounding this Netherlands international.
